Arctic discourses by Anka Ryall( )

7 editions published in 2010 in English and Undetermined and held by 985 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Both fictional and non-fictional accounts of the Arctic have long been a major source of powerful images of the region, and have thus had a crucial part to play in the history of human activities there. This volume provides a wide-reaching investigation into the discourses involved in such accounts, above all into the consolidation of a discourse of "Arcticism" (modelled on Edward Said's concept of "Orientalism"), but also into the many intersecting discourses of imperialism, nationalism, masculinity, modernity, geography, science, race, ecology, indigeneity, aesthetics, etc. Perspectives originating from inside and outside the Arctic, along with hybrid positions, are examined, with special attention being given to the textual genres, narratives and figures which they mobilize, together with to the close relationship between the Arctic as an unknown place and the literary imagination. The different chapters address a wide geographical range of texts, providing a necessary supplement to most previous work in the field, and also address the wide variety of genres which flourish under the aegis of Arctic discourse, ranging from exploration accounts, travel-writing, political texts and journalism through diaries and historical documents to novels and novelizations, and including also other media, such as music and opera."--Pub. desc
Living together : Roland Barthes, the individual and the community by Knut Stene-Johansen( )

11 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 902 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Long description: Is it possible to create a community for those who resist family and communal life? A community where everyone lives according to their own rhythm, and yet respects the individual rhythms of others? In a thought-provoking and original, interdisciplinary approach to questions of conviviality, the contributions of this anthology respond to Roland Barthes' 1977 lecture series on the subject of How to Live Together at the Collège de France in Paris and explore Barthes' utopia of idiorrhytmic life forms in literature, arts and other media
Border aesthetics : concepts and intersections( )

9 editions published between 2017 and 2019 in English and held by 213 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Few concepts are as central to understanding the modern world as borders, and the now-thriving field of border studies has already produced a substantial literature analyzing their legal, ideological, geographical, and historical aspects. Such studies have hardly exhausted the subject's conceptual fertility, however, as this pioneering collection on the aesthetics of borders demonstrates. Organized around six key ideas-ecology, imaginary, in/visibility, palimpsest, sovereignty and waiting-the interlocking essays collected here provide theoretical starting points for an aesthetic understanding of borders, developed in detail through interdisciplinary analyses of literature, audio-visual borderscapes, historical and contemporary ecologies, political culture, and migration
Passagiere des Eises Polarhelden und arktische Diskurse 1874 by Johan Schimanski( )

11 editions published between 2014 and 2015 in German and held by 86 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Å leve sammen : Roland Barthes, individet og fellesskapet( Book )

2 editions published in 2016 in Multiple languages and Norwegian and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
